Soaring Costs Hit Mobile Phone Prices

Domestic mobile phones face the pressure of soaring component costs, and Huawei Mate 70 is under pressure to raise prices

As the release date of Huawei Mate 70 is approaching, users generally hope that its price will not be too high. Recently, a wave of price hikes has swept through the domestic mobile phone market. Starting from October, several mobile phone manufacturers have raised their prices in response to the pressure brought by the rapid increase in the cost of upstream components.

Since the beginning of this year, due to the rising cost of mobile phone processors, memory chips and other components, as well as the increased investment in AI research and development by domestic mobile phone brands, the prices of domestic high, medium and low-end mobile phones have risen across the board. Recently released high-end flagship models also generally increased their prices by 100 to 500 yuan compared to the previous generation. For example, the starting price of the Xiaomi Mi 15 series has increased by 500 yuan compared to the previous generation.

Lei Jun, founder of Xiaomi, said that the rising cost of components and increased investment in research and development were important factors leading to price increases. Regarding the question of whether Huawei Mate 70 will also raise prices, the supply chain said that although it is facing the pressure of rising component costs, whether it will eventually raise prices depends on Huawei's official decision.

It is understood that processors, memory chips, cameras and screens are the main components of mobile phones, which constitute the majority of the raw material costs of mobile phones. The main reason for this price rise is the rise in the prices of these key components.
