Meta Takes Steps to Keep Threads Users Engaged After More Than Half Abandon App

Meta Platforms is focused on boosting retention on its new Twitter rival Threads, after the app lost more than half of its users in the weeks following its launch.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg said that while the retention rate was better than expected, it was still not "perfect." He attributed the drop-off to a number of factors, including the fact that Threads is still a new app and that users may have been waiting to see what features would be added in future updates.

Zuckerberg said that he expected retention to improve as the company adds more features to Threads, such as a desktop version and search functionality. He also said that Meta is looking at ways to make Threads more "sticky" by integrating it with other Meta products, such as Instagram.

In addition to discussing Threads, Zuckerberg also spoke about Meta's work on the metaverse. He said that the company is "not massively ahead of schedule, but on track" with its development of augmented and virtual reality technology. Zuckerberg added that Meta needs to get started investing in the metaverse now in order to stay ahead of rivals such as Apple, Google, and Microsoft.

Zuckerberg also highlighted the company's release of an artificial intelligence model called Llama 2. He said that the model has received more than 150,000 download requests in the week since its release.

Finally, Zuckerberg responded to a question about the proposed "cage match" against Elon Musk. He said that he was "not sure if it's going to come together."
