Elon Musk's X to Launch Video and Audio Calls

Elon Musk's social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, plans to launch video and audio calls. The features will be available on Apple's iOS, Google's Android, and personal computers, and users will not need a phone number to use them.

Musk announced the plans in a post on X on Thursday. He did not give a timeline for the launch.

The move is part of Musk's vision to turn X into a "super app" that offers a range of services, from messaging and social networking to peer-to-peer payments. This vision is similar to that of Tencent's WeChat app, which is a ubiquitous part of daily life in China.

Musk has also been pushing to change how news links appear on X in a move that could undermine the reach of news publishers.

The launch of video and audio calls is the latest step in Musk's efforts to transform X. It remains to be seen how successful he will be in his goal of creating a "super app" that can compete with the likes of WeChat.
